Question or issue on macOS:
- How To Install Eclipse On Mac - Javatpoint
- Which Eclipse Do I Download For Java On Mac Os

Mar 23, 2016 If an app or webpage you want to use asks you to install Java software, you can download the current version of Java for OS X directly from Oracle's website. Note: You can also download legacy Java SE 6 from Apple if you're using an app that specifically requires this unsupported, out-of-date version. Download the Java SE 6 for OSX (click the Download button) Once the download finishes, install the dmg file following the onscreen instructions. When you have Java Runtime 6 installed on your Mac, you can launch Adobe CS5 (or any other app that require Java 6 runtime). Note: You DO NOT need to restart your Mac before launching the app. In this handout we will download Eclipse Standard 4.4 for Mac OS. The version you should download is Eclipse IDE for Eclipse Committers. It is critical that Java, Python, and Eclipse are either all 32 Bit or are all 64 Bit (and only if your Machine/OS supports 64 Bit): I think it easiest on Macs to use 64 Bit for everything.
I want to use the JRE 1.7 that I downloaded from Oracle website.
So I correctly install the .pkg file, and when I try /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -version in the terminal I get this :
But in Eclipse I can't use anything else than JRE 1.6. When I go in Properties > Java Build Path > Add Library > JRE System Library, I can't find the 1.7 (there is only option for it : JavaSE-1.7 (unbound) with this issue :
What should I do ? Thanks
How to solve this problem?
How To Install Eclipse On Mac - Javatpoint
Solution no. 1:
The download from java.com
which installs in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
is only the JRE, for development you probably want to download the JDK from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html and install that instead. This will install the JDK at /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_.jdk/Contents/Home
which you can then add to Eclipse via Preferences -> Java -> Installed JREs.
Solution no. 2:
Try editing your eclipse.ini file and add the following at the top
Of course the path may be slightly different, looks like I have an older version…
I'm not sure if it will add itself automatically. If not go into
Preferences –> Java –> Installed JREs
Click Add and follow the instructions there to add it
Which Eclipse Do I Download For Java On Mac Os
Solution no. 3:
Legacy java 6 runtime mac download. You need to tell Eclipse which JDK/JRE's you have installed and where they are located.
Eclipse - Apple Community
This is somewhat burried in the Eclipse preferences: In the Window-Menu select 'Preferences'. In the Preferences Tree, open the Node 'Java' and select 'Installed JRE's'. Then click on the 'Add'-Button in the Panel and select 'Standard VM', 'Next' and for 'JRE Home' click on the 'Directory'-Button and select the top level folder of the JDK you want to add.
Its easier than the description may make it look.
